Arvida Project
Project Overview
Arvida was a very challenging project to say the least. It had many moments where we had to liaise with other trades on site and work around very tight strict schedules to achieve 350m2 of Allied River Mist 4% Charcoal, 83m2 of Allied Autumn Gold with 4% Charcoal, 84m2 of plain roller finish concrete and 25m2 of Allied River Mist 4% Charcoal to the front entrance steps of the Clubhouse.
Along with the two pours for main entrance steps, we also did 7 other pathway pours, the carpark entrance and the bowling green surrounding the clubhouse so it all matched perfectly.
Our Process
The first task for us was to build and pour the main clubhouse entrance steps which have to be seamless. The challenging part was making sure we had straight lines on the top faces of the steps, perfect inverts on the base and no honeycomb faces. To achieve this, we did the steps in two pours with pouring every second step on one day and stripping out the faces then re-boxing the in between steps to make sure all our invert lines were perfect. Also, because we had two different pour dates we had to try and match in a 1 ⁄ 2 dose black river mist small stone from Allied Concrete which is a demanding task to do as timing is everything with this mix.
As this job was done over a month, we had over 30-degree heat and gale force winds, with tight schedules, start time issues whilst working around landscapers, masonry’s, builders, diggers, and painters etc. This was all against us, but we prevailed nonetheless. Pulling off, what I believe is, the best entrance to a clubhouse and bowling green I have seen.
With the hot temperatures, timing with cutting and curing was key. Curing blankets, sprinklers and cure compounds were all used, along with next day cutting, to prevent any cracking issues and to achieve the ideal curing conditions. With all the different types of concrete all blending into each other, we believe that this job was done to a high standard with a very happy client. So much so, we received a letter of appreciation from the Director of Armitage Williams thanking us for exceptional work for an outstanding outcome.
