Chris Jack Project
Project Overview
This job was a very challenging but fun task. It had a lot of elements to it that could have gone horribly wrong but did not.
Never mind the fact it was for ex All Black legend, Chris Jack!
From start to finish this job was run with the utmost perfection, from the way it was boxed and set up right through to the pouring of the concrete. There was a big focus on curing of the concrete as we were in the middle of a very hot and windy season and being black concrete, we decided to use a combination of the curing compound Sinak S102 and soft cutting of concrete. To ensure a lessened chance of cracking we re-cut with wet cuts the next day.
Pouring the job was challenging, as we had to protect all the block work and the house from concrete splatter from the concrete pump. This meant we had to mask everything up to protect it which took a lot of time.
We had a 3-man army with us that day to complete a 184m2 of acid etch concrete, making sure we had vibrated all our big, faced footings along the face of the pool. Making sure none of our edges were low along the pool pavers, trowelling the acid etch till it looked like a mirror so no lines showed throughout the pool area and surrounding patios and stepping stones
The biggest mission was making sure the floating steps were perfect as this is the feature and the lead up to his pool area where we wanted a real WOW factor! We made sure to vibrate and triple tap every square inch of all the faces and sides. This helped get a seamless face the whole way around the step.
When we acid etched the pool we had to be careful not to get acid on the pavers and in the pool, so cleaning up and managing acid runoff was a big task. Making sure we protected all the pool paver edges and block work from the acid during the etching process. Also being mindful as we were in a coastal environment so managing the acid runoff was of high importance.
Now for the moment of truth, the floating steps! We were careful to de box only to find our faces on the steps were to perfection which made this job perfect.
To finish the job off, two weeks later before all the balustrade went up, we re-acid washed and applied two coats of concrete sealer to all areas which made the job even better and a very happy client.
